Elpida, the Greek word for hope, is what artist Melissa A. Michael aspires to instill in those battling cancer. Her horse reflects a sense of spirituality with its crimson nebulas and starry abyss. Michael incorporated a Tree of Life, wrapping around the body to lift up wings. The dark wings hold the prayers and hopes from cancer survivors written in gold calligraphy. The medium is acrylic paint with a blend of airbrushing. Michael graduated recently from New Hampshire Institute of Art with a BFA in Painting. She participated in several exhibitions while a student.
